Semester One
Introduction to GIS (10 Credits)
An introductory course into the concepts and data models that underpin GIS. It gave me an appreciatation of the analytical functionality of GIS and a broad understanding of the 'real world' GIS applications
Coursework:
- Assessed Essay into the merits of the Raster and Vector Data Models
- Report into the Application of GIS in the Insurance Industry, included a presentation
Proprietary GIS (20 Credits)
An introduction to the main functionality and spatial analytical powers of Arc/Info. Developed my skills in data entry and manipulation, analysis and and maping using Arc/Info. Also included work on ArcView and Arc Marco Programming (AML).
Coursework:
- Computer based analysis project using Arc/Info
- Development of an AML Program
Quantitative Research Methods (10 Credits)
A course designed to develop knowledge into quantitative data acquistion, analysis and display. Included census data extraction, the use of SPSS and an introduction into MapInfo.
Coursework consisted of a series of practical assignments.
Semester Two
GIS & Environment(20 Credits)
Considers the potential for the application of GIS in the handling of environmental data and gives an appreciation of the utility of GIS in environmental managemeent and policy making.
Coursework:
Applied GIS & Spatial Analysis(20 Credits)
Covered the general principles of geographic analysis and modelling relevant to GIS. Developed skills in analysis and modelling, and an understanding of intelligent GIS.
Coursework:
- Practical Assessment into Zone Design
- Assessment into Supermarket Catchment Areas in Birmingham
Introduction to Disseratation Research (5 Credits)
Develop the purpose, structure and content of a disseratation.
Coursework:
- Critical Literature Review
- Presentation of Dissetration methodology and content
Disseratation (35 Credits)
